A New Brunswick story will be my first book
This morning I woke up to day #2 of my week on vacation! This by no means will be a week of sipping wine and lounging on the patio. For one because the sun is always a no-show on my vacation and in fact, I have tons of work to do on this blog. My goal is to finish the author bios and the book summaries this week so I can finally concentrate on reading my first book. So you may be wondering if I’ve finally decided what book to read first. I have. I decided this morning as I sipped my tea and seemed to get caught in a web of Acadianism (probably not a word but who cares). First on Canada AM where Zachary Richard was the musical guest at the end of the show. His voice brought back many memories of my childhood back home in New Brunswick. I grew up listening to his music and songs like “La Ballade de Jean Batailleur“. Then I was flipping through channels and stumbled on a documentary “Suzie Leblanc: A Musical Quest” on Bravo. From the Bravo website:
The renowned interpreter of early music returns home to New Brunswick to visit the landscapes and landmarks that formed her childhood and youth. The documentary features her songs and traces the links between the music and Acadia’s painful, yet inspiring history.
Well so much for me trying to get all creative with deciding what book I should read first. I should have known that starting off with where it all began for me would be the way to go. I am a Francophone from New Brunswick. It is only natural that my first book would be Antonine Maillet‘s “Pélagie-la-Charrette” (a Francophone from New Brunswick). Now I have to go and finish the book’s summary so you can read what it’s about and hopefully start reading it too. In the meantime, go see what I’ve written about Antonine. My little Acadian Avenger is quite the character, which you will see if you watch the related videos. Enjoy!
